Director

Bernadine Brown

As the Co Director of Emerge Ministries International and the Project Director of Egress Youth Diversion, Dr. Bernadine Brown's life journey has been dedicated to serving children and her community through her personal passions and work history.
Her commitment to nurturing and caring for children began as the primary caregiver to her four children. For years, she dedicated herself to their upbringing, providing them with a strong foundation through love, education, and support. Dr. Brown took the role of a teacher in her children's lives, ensuring they all learned to read even before attending school. This early experience instilled in her a deep understanding of the importance of a child's developmental years and set the stage for her future endeavors.
Her desire to make a difference in lives led her to work in the Department of Corrections as both a corrections officer and a parole officer. During this time, she likely gained valuable insights into the challenges faced by at-risk youth, which further fueled her dedication to creating positive change.
Following her work in corrections, Dr. Brown transitioned to a career with the Department of Human Services, where she served as a Social Worker for thirteen years. In this role, she demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a strong commitment to supporting vulnerable children and families within the community. Her experience in social work allowed her to witness firsthand the impact of various social issues on children, further inspiring her to take action.
For the past 22 years, Dr. Brown has been involved in education, teaching in both Public and Charter Schools. Her background in teaching allowed her to combine her passion for education and her desire to empower young minds. As an educator, she fostered a nurturing and inclusive learning environment, ensuring that each student had the opportunity to thrive academically and personally.
Throughout her professional journey, Dr. Bernadine Brown has exemplified a remarkable dedication to serving children and her community. From nurturing her own children and grandchildren, to working in various roles that directly impact the lives of young people, her commitment to their well-being has been unwavering. As the Director of Emerge Ministries International and the Project Manager and Director of Egress Youth Diversion, she undoubtedly continues to channel her personal passions and extensive work history to create meaningful programs and initiatives that uplift and support youth in their journey towards a brighter future. Her story is a testament to the profound impact one person can make by dedicating their life to serving others, especially the young minds that will shape the world of tomorrow

Assistant Director 

Dr. Dee Brown Sr.ThD

Dr.Brown was born in Oklahoma City where he lived with both of his parents. Most of his education was completed in Oklahoma where he graduated high school and college at Southern Nazarene University. He also completed three certified units of CPE Clinical Pastoral Training and Chaplaincy at Presbyterian Hospital Complex, and was awarded a National Service award for His service during the Oklahoma City Bombing. After moving to New Mexico he received a Doctorate of Theology.

 

Dr. Dee Brown is the Sr. Pastor and Co- Founder of Emerge Church Abq the parent group of Emerge Ministries International (EMI). Dr. Brown is also the President of Emerge Ministries International. Pastor Brown has served as Sr. Pastor for over 40 years 20 years in Oklahoma and now 21 yrs in New Mexico.

 

Dr. Dee Brown Sr, worked as a bi-vocational pastor for many years his career experience includes 20 years of executive level management of nonprofits,that include, Albuquerque Health Care for the homeless, New Mexico Conference of Churches,NM Young Fathers,Job Corp and many more. Dr.Brown has continued to be an advocate for those in need,His ministry and career have been continually centered around community support and service

VISTA Supervisor

Brejette N. Terry-Emery 

Brejette N. Terry-Emery is a strategic affirmation life advisor, a three-time Amazon bestselling author, and a motivational speaker. She is the Co-CEO of the for profit business G.UR.L. Get Ur Life Coaching, Consulting, and Training as well as the Founder of Empowerment with Bre Women’s Ministry which aims to inspire women stuck in the space of being called and aware but now what? With the many hats that she wears, she is also the co-founder of the nonprofit Inspire Empower NewMexico and former Executive Director of its local Dress for Success Albuquerque, an affiliate of the worldwide Dress for Success organization for six years. Prior to this role Brejette served the community and its youth for eight years, providing case management, guidance, mentoring, and career pathways for Albuquerque’s at-risk youth and their families. Brejette holds a Bachelor of Science in Family Studies/Human Development and Family Relations, with a minor in Africana Studies from the University of New Mexico. Brejette is passionate about walking in her innate God-given purpose, and most importantly, raising her amazingly bright son.

Imani-Imara W. Karoki

Imani Karoki is a driven entrepreneur and dedicated esthetician. Her unwavering focus is on cultivating her career in therapeutic aesthetics while simultaneously making meaningful contributions to her community. She actively seeks out opportunities to utilize her skills and expertise to contribute to various community initiatives, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to making a positive impact. Imani’s deep-seated passion lies in utilizing her exceptional talents to help individuals recognize and enhance their inner beauty, thereby boosting their self-confidence, mental health, and overall well-being. Through her tireless efforts, Imani strives to empower individuals and foster a sense of unity within her community, ultimately leaving a lasting and meaningful legacy.

Destinie Otero

Destinie Otero is a proud Hispanic woman and first generation college graduate. She possesses a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Concentration in Addiction Counseling, and Minor in Family and Child Studies obtained from The University of New Mexico. Additionally, she is licensed as a Substance Abuse Associate. From a young age, she has strived with strong passion and tenacity to be able to obtain and succeed with prestigious educational opportunities and professional work focused on creating and sustaining positive, meaningful, and healthy changes in her community that are crucial for breaking harmful generational cycles. She has established several years of community engagement, behavioral health, and social services experience. She believes her unique journey of personal adversities, higher education attainment, and professional experiences has become the crucible of her empowerment and liberation in life, enabling her to adeptly lead with projects and entrepreneurial endeavors aiming to empower others to live healthy, fulfilled, and purposeful lives.

Bernadine Brown

Dr. Bernadine Brown, Director of Emerge Motivation Initiatives (EMI), has committed to supporting at-risk youth and strengthening her community. As Director of Emerge Motivation Initiatives, she brings a wealth of experience in education, corrections, and social work to her mission of empowering young people. Her journey began with raising her own children, which deepened her understanding of young people's needs and challenges, especially those in difficult circumstances. This foundation led to her roles as a corrections officer, a social worker, and an educator, each reinforcing her dedication to guiding at-risk youth toward positive outcomes.

At EMI Egress Youth Diversion, Dr. Brown focuses on reducing recidivism, dismantling stigmatization, and alleviating the costs of youth involvement in the criminal justice system, with an emphasis on serving Black youth in Albuquerque. The program fosters family connections, self-development, educational support, and vocational training to help youth break cycles of poverty and avoid the risks associated with incarceration. Dr. Brown’s unwavering dedication underscores her impact on empowering youth and providing them with opportunities for growth, stability, and community reintegration.

As Assistant Director of Emerge Motivation Initiatives (EMI), Dr. Dee Brown Sr. brings a wealth of experience in pastoral leadership, nonprofit management, and community advocacy. With over 40 years in pastoral work, Dr. Brown is the Senior Pastor and Co-Founder of Emerge Church ABQ, which supports EMI. His background includes extensive work in executive roles for organizations like Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless, NM Young Fathers, and Job Corps. Through these positions, he has developed a deep commitment to supporting underserved populations and has honed skills in managing programs that uplift and empower individuals in need.

Dr. Brown’s approach to EMI is rooted in his dedication to service, particularly in helping youth and families access the resources they need to thrive. His expertise in Clinical Pastoral Education, earned through his work at Presbyterian Hospital Complex, along with his Doctorate in Theology, equips him to guide EMI’s initiatives with compassion and insight. Dr. Brown’s leadership enriches EMI by fostering a culture of community, resilience, and opportunity, reinforcing the organization’s mission to empower at-risk youth and their families.

EMI VISTA Project Director

Coria Tucker

Coria Tucker is the EMI VISTA Project Director with ten years of experience in nonprofit and corporate communications and administrative roles. Coria graduated with a BA in Journalism and a Community and Leadership Development minor from the University of Kentucky. Throughout her career, Coria has combined her passion for writing, organization, creativity, and attention to detail to create content for the organizations she serves. From writing news stories to annual reports and various other projects, Coria brings a well-rounded experience to EMI. She is diligent about implementing systems and processes to support her team’s efficiency and productivity. Coria loves spending time with her husband, children, family, and friends in her free time! She is excited to play a role in spurring the mission and vision of EMI and looks forward to what’s to come!

Sirjustin Bowen

Sirjustin Bowen, born in Madison, Wisconsin, grew up as an army brat, which exposed him to diverse cultures and communities. In 2020, he relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he is currently pursuing a degree in Communication, with double minors in Graphic Design and Digital Filmmaking. These skills have equipped him with a unique blend of creativity and strategic communication, which are invaluable in his role as a Fundraiser and Event VISTA at Emerge.
